Mrs. Willie Lee Jones, age 96, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, April 28, 2022, surrounded by family. She was born to Clifford H. Cavitt, Sr. and Iva Adrine Cavitt on December 8, 1925 in Aransas Pass, Texas. She was the oldest of seven siblings. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior as a child in Vacation Bible School. She graduated from Aransas Pass High School in 1943 and received her Bachelor of Business Administration from Baylor University in 1949.
Willie met her husband, Laban Earl Jones, on a blind date in 1949 and they were married on September 9, 1950. They have three children: Deborah Terry (husband, Hassel) of Bullard, Texas, Mike Jones (wife, Deb) of Flower Mound, Texas and David Jones (wife, Debbie) of Hewitt, Texas. She was a beloved sister, wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, aunt and friend to many. She was also an active member of Willow Meadows Baptist Church in Houston for over 54 years, where she served and volunteered throughout her time there. Willie moved to Hewitt, Texas in 2019 to be close to family. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, ceramics, reading, dominoes, Canasta, and most of all, time with her family and friends.
Willie was preceded in death by her husband, Labe (1990); her parents; brothers, Buddy, Truman and Jimmie Cavitt; sister, Laura Buckingham; brothers-in-law, Roy Buckingham, Larry Putman, Sam Taylor Jones, Horace Poole, Bill Pinson, and Granville Jones; and sisters-in-law, Kay Cavitt, Mary Edna Poole, Aileene Pinson, and Lallie Jones.
Survivors include her children; ten grandchildren, Jason Terry (Holly), Lori Ernst (Chris), Brandon Terry (Lindsey), Ryan Jones (Kellyn), Brett Terry (Leah), Kyle Jones (Andra), Kristin Rettig (Clayton), Garrett Terry (Grace), Hope Jones and Bethany White (Cody); 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Walton Cavitt; sister, Velma Ann Putman sisters-in-law, Billie Cavitt, Kay Cavitt and Haletha Jones; numerous beloved nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
Visitation/viewing will be held at the Bogata Cemetery pavilion in Bogata, Texas on May 7, 2022 from 1:30 – 1:50 PM, followed by the graveside service at 2 PM, also at the pavilion. The service will be officiated by her grandson, Brett Terry. Willie will be laid to rest next to her husband, Labe, who was born and raised in Bogata. The pallbearers will be her nine grandsons.
