James Waltrip, 49, of Hewitt, passed away June 16, 2013. Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, June 20 at 11am at Grace Gardens Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 19, from 5-7pm at the funeral home.
James was born May 3, 1964 in Morton, TX to Dub and Sandra Waltrip. After graduating from Whiteface High School he attended South Plains College where he received a degree in Petroleum Technology and an Associate's degree in Applied Science. He received awards for petroleum technology student of the year, physics student of the year, and engineering student of the year. He then went to Texas Tech University where he received a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. He married Cindy Lynskey on August 12, 1983 then moved to Hewitt where he went to work for L-3 Communications supporting military contracts as a systems engineering manager. He supported several military programs and was always proud to do so. James was a Hewitt volunteer firefighter for 13 years and a member of the Central Texas Rifle & Pistol Club where he enjoyed shooting and competing in IPSC and Steel Challenge. He loved airplanes, fishing and spending time with his wife, children, family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Cindy Waltrip; son, Jake Waltrip; daughter, Aubrey Waltrip; parents, Dub and Sandra Waltrip; brothers, Jeff and wife Mandy of Virginia, and David and wife Julie of Boerne, Tx; and many nieces and nephews.
