Biography

William (“Bill”) Brewster Jones, age 60, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 6, after a long battle with cancer. He was at home with his wife by his side. Services will be held on Friday April 9, 2010 at 11am, at Grace Gardens Funeral Home with cremation after services. Visitation will be Thursday April 8, 2010 from 6 to 8pm at Grace Gardens Funeral Home.

Bill was born on February 21, 1950, to Dello H. and Nancy Brewster Jones. He attended Waco public schools, graduated from University High School in 1968, and attended McLennan Community College. He married Eva Philips on August 2, 1969—the beginning of 40 wonderful years of marriage. He was a member of the Army Reserve from 1969 to 1975. Bill and his wife owned and operated Jones Service Center since 1975. Bill always loved a challenge, had a very big heart for all his friends and customers, and often went above and beyond the call when needed.

Bill pursued many hobbies and interests, including fishing, boating, woodworking, and especially helping others with what ever was needed. He was active with Boy Scouts and helped for years with the China Spring Band Boosters. He was a member of the China Spring Methodist Church, served as President of the Board of Trustees, and was instrumental in building the church kitchen. He also loved performing civilian ride-alongs with the McLennan County Sheriff’s Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and survivors include his wife, Eva; son, Brian and wife Kristi, granddaughter Audrey and grandson Connor, all of San Antonio; sister Sylvia McNair of Houston; cousins Carol Gatewood of St. Louis; Linda Brown of Denton; and Rebecca Jones Fuge of Maryland; and aunt, Kay Jones of Maryland.

Honorary pallbearers are Marvin Crouch, Bryan Crouch, Roy Gann, Dan Mauerman, Mark Holcomb, Robert Fulmer, Joe Sullins, Rick Gwin, Larry Eschenburg, and Dr. Bob Grayson.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made to the Waco Humane Society in Bill’s honor.
