William Childers

William Lester Childers 75, of Robinson, passed away peacefully Saturday July 26th following a courageous battle with Parkinson's .

Celebration of Life: 11:00 a.m.Friday, August 1st at Grace Gardens Funeral Home Chapel in Woodway.

William was born October 26, 1938 to the late Evelyn and Gid Childers. He is survived by his wife Barbara Joan Childers of Robinson; son Robert Michael Childers and wife Gina of Midlothian; son Lester Todd Childers of Robinson; grandchildren Tara, Ty and Josh Childers and extended family Diane Childers and Niki, Dana and Reed Johnston. Sisters Beth Kucera and husband Charles of Ft Worth and Ann Hurst and husband T.C. of Corsicana. Many nieces and nephews and cousins.
William graduated from Waco High School in 1956. He received his BA from the University of Arlington and Masters from the University of Utah. On March 30, 1963, he married the love of his life Barbara Joan Hickman. Together the began their life in the United States Air Force. They travelled from place to place with their two boys seeing much of the world. Five of these years they lived in England where the boys picked up a bit of the British accent. William also spent a tour in Greenland and Korea during his 20 years of active duty. In 1983, he retired with rank of Major.
After retiring from the USAF, he spent a short time working for the U.S. Postal Service. He then soon began his Civil Service Career in Air Space Management. This led them to Louisiana and Panama City Florida. It was during this time he developed flight plans for the military and the President.
In 2006, he and Barbara returned home to family roots in the Waco area. He and Barbara were married 51 years. He spent many of these years camping, hunting and fishing with his boys, grandchildren, family and friends. He was devoted to his family and always made sure they were well provided for in every way. He taught them to love one another, the true meaning of sharing and most of all how to tease and laugh.
His family loved him and appreciates what he did for them and his country.
