Wilburn Ray Schuette, a lifetime rancher of Crawford, made his daily rounds to check his cattle one last time and went to be with his Lord and Savior on the afternoon of August 28, 2017, at the age of 79.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, Sept. 1, 2017, at Zion Lutheran Church, 503 S. Tyler Street, McGregor with Pastor Chris Farrow officiating. Interment will follow in St. Paul Memorial Park in Crawford. Visitation will be 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017, in the chapel of Grace Gardens Funeral Home, 8220 Woodway Dr. Waco.
Mr. Schuette was born July 6, 1938, in Moody, Texas the son of the late Melvin and Ellen (Fehler) Schuette and moved to Crawford in 1940 at the age of two. He was a 1957 graduate of Crawford High School where he was a proud Crawford Pirate supporter and had the honor of being named to the Super Centex Football Team for Crawford in 1956. For several years, he served in the National Guard. In 2000, he retired from Smead Manufacturing in McGregor after devoting thirty years of service as the shipping and receiving supervisor.
On March 18, 1961, he married Doris Strunck at Zion Lutheran Church. Together, they shared fifty-six wonderful years.
An active member of Zion Lutheran Church, Wilburn enjoyed ranching, and raising his cattle and spending many mornings drinking coffee with his buddies at the local feed store. However, his greatest pleasure was watching and following his grandchildren play sports and perform in their various activities.
Survivors include his wife Doris Schuette; two daughters, Laurie Schroeder and husband David of Mart, Audrey Lippe and husband Darrell of Crawford; four grandchildren, Leslie Murphy and husband John, Cody Schroeder and wife Emily, Landon Lippe and wife Chelsea, Shanna Lippe; two precious great granddaughters, Landry Murphy, Layton Lippe; a sister, Norma Jean Triplett of Calvert and many nieces and nephews.
