Wilburn Ray Gauer, 81, of Woodway, passed away Monday, July 22, 2013. Funeral services are set for 10 a.m., Friday, July 26, 2013 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home chapel with Terry Graham officiating and burial to follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, July 25, 2013 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home.
Wilburn Gauer was born on February 24, 1932 in Crawford, TX to Willie and Frieda Gauer. He went into the US Navy in 1955 serving on board the USS Sumner County (LST-1148). Wilburn married Charlene Harding in 1959. Since the Navy, Wilburn was very active in the Texas LST Association and enjoyed attending their meetings. Wilburn worked at Hicks Saw and Knife for 23 years and started Century Saw & Tool in 1973, retiring in 1997. He was a member of the Fidelis Lodge, a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge, and a member of First Baptist Church of Woodway for 35 years. He was a avid fisherman and enjoyed traveling all over to fish. He also enjoyed working in his wood shop and his weekend get-aways to Granbury where he could hide from the telephone.
Wilburn is preceded in death by his parents.
Wilburn leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Charlene Gauer; son, David Gauer; daughter, Valarie Denise Gauer; brothers, Charles Gauer and wife Carol, and Robert Gauer and wife Betty; sister, Rita and husband Layton Nehring; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Leon Hesse, Dink Hunnicutt, Bud Jones, Kenneth Glaze, Lamar Ewing and Currie Bishop.
