Donald “Wes” Wesley Cooper, 67, of Woodway, passed away on October 17, 2021 surrounded by his loved ones after a brief and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Wes’ son, Eric, was at his side the moment he left this earth to enter his home in Heaven. His visitation will be at 1:00 Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Crestview Church of Christ, followed by his service at 2:00 officiated by his beloved brother-in-law, Curtis Barbarick.
Wes was born April 20, 1954 in El Paso, Texas to Calvin and Tiddley Cooper. As a child he enjoyed watching cartoons, loved comic book heroes, playing hide-and-seek outside, and his favorite Wednesday night meal, “busgetti.” Wes and his father, Calvin, were part of Y Indian Guides. Wes’ Indian name was Straight Arrow and his dad’s was Big Arrow. He and his cousins would spend time shooting targets in the desert and treasure hunting in Kingston, New Mexico. After high school, Wes began working at Western Auto Parts, married, and welcomed his two children, Tammy and Eric. Shortly after Eric’s birth, the family moved to Waco, Texas, where Wes lived, worked, and worshipped for the rest of his life. Wes valued time with his family, and frequently returned to El Paso to visit.
Wes appreciated a good conversation and was a remarkable storyteller. Most weekends his dinner table would be surrounded with friends and family enjoying a meal, conversation, his fantastic stories, and endless laughter. His friends, life group, and family looked forward to “Story Time with Wes” to hear about his adventures growing up in El Paso and his mishaps with power tools and electricity.
On May 17, 2003, Wes married Kamlin Martin. They were married for eighteen wonderful years. They spent their time serving their church and church family, playing games with friends, loving on their grandchildren, and traveling. He most recently enjoyed a vacation to St. John’s with his precious wife, Kamlin. Wes attended Crestview Church of Christ for nearly 40 years. He was an active member in his church. He sang in the chorus, served as deacon, enjoyed mission work, volunteered in the church food pantry, and spent many years supporting the youth group.
Wes enjoyed woodcrafting and repurposing items. His children and grandchildren enjoyed the fruits of his labor and displayed his handiwork in their homes in the form of a beautiful table, beds, toy boxes, a chicken coop, and corn hole. Wes loved his family, grandchildren, church, and friends. He loved a good Mexican dinner, movies, and fishing with Sam. He shared his love of comic book heroes and movies with his grandchildren, and they loved sharing the joy of these things with him.
Wes was a wonderful husband, father, and grand-father. His Christian example, unwavering support, and unconditional love will be missed greatly.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Tiddley Cooper.
Wes began his new journey with the Lord and Savior on October 17, 2021 where he will be waiting for us to join him and is celebrating with those who have been waiting for him. He is survived by his wife, Kamlin Cooper; his children, Tammy Miller and her husband, Caleb; Eric Cooper and his wife, Amanda; Kalli Biggs, and Kaitlyn Martin; six grand-children, Myles, Oliver, Calvin, Mabrey, Hazen, and Callen; father, Calvin Cooper; and siblings, Katy Tyler and her husband, Jeff, Wayne Cooper and his wife Pennie, Cindy Cooper, and Lisa Barbarick and her husband, Curtis; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
