Wayne Morris Bennett, 91, passed away at his home surrounded by the people he loved. There will be a graveside service at 10:00am on Monday, September 25, 2017 at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 4:00-6:00 pm Sunday, September 24, 2017 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home.
Wayne was born April 29, 1926 to Clarence H. and Rosa B. Bennett in Shidler, Oklahoma. He was the second of 4 children. At 18, he joined the Navy where he served until July 1946. He was a machinist after the service. He had a love for flying and built his own piper cub plane in his garage in Coffeyville, Kansas. He had many hobbies. He loved crafts, woodworking, corralling grandchildren, fishing, working at the Fair and Rodeo, and doting on the love of his life, Melba.
Wayne moved to Waco Texas from Seattle Washington in the late 80’s. Here he met and married Melba R. Denton Feathers on April 6, 1990.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 27 years, Melba Bennett; his children, Joyce Bennett of Washington, Pamela Sherwood and Dean Roark of Florida, Howard and Shelly Bennett of Washington, Wayne Bennett and Michelle Cate of Washington, Loretta and Boris Crvenkovski of Woodway, Paul and Teresa Feathers of Lorena, Belinda Bradley of Hewitt, and Jeff and Dianna Feathers of Robinson; one sister, Shirley Thomas of Kansas, as well as many grandchildren, great grand children and one great-great grandchild.
Wayne was a kind and loving man who loved to laugh and loved his family. He will be sorely missed by all.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Baptist Church of Hewitt or Baylor Scott and White Hospice.
