Walter Dean Washington, Sr.

Walter Dean Washington, Sr., a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on March 10, 2025, at the age of 65. Born on July 8, 1959.

Walter was born on July 8, 1959 to Lincoln Earl and O’Dell Marie Carter Washington. A proud graduate of Marlin High School, Walter received his High School Diploma in 1977. Throughout his life, he had a wide range of interests, including fishing, target shooting, and home improvement projects. Walter's passion for DIY endeavors extended to landscaping, where he took great pride in beautifying his surroundings.

Walter was a dedicated professional with long-term employment spanning nearly four decades. He served the Methodist Children’s Home, UPS, and Integ, all based in Waco, Texas, contributing 10 to 15 years of service to each organization.

A significant aspect of Walter's life was his unwavering commitment to sobriety. He celebrated nearly 36 years of sobriety, an anniversary that marked a significant turning point in his life. Joining the Triangle Group in Waco, Texas, Walter devoted countless hours volunteering to mentor individuals affected by alcohol and substance abuse. His dedication to helping others navigate their challenges was a testament to his compassionate nature and desire to give back.

Walter is preceded in death by his mother, O’Dell Marie Carter Washington; his father, Lincoln Earl Washington; his brothers, Johnny Pendleton, Archie B. Carter, Wayne Alfonso Washington, and James Gregory Washington his son, Jeffrey Dewayne Washington; his sister, Vera Denise Washington; and his grandson, Xavier Dean Washington. He is survived by his brothers, Lincoln Earl Washington, Henry Lee Pendleton, Thomas L. Pendleton, and Lewis Charles Washington (Marie); his sister, Patricia Ann Washington Gude (Dan); his ex-wives, Iris Washington and Frances Washington; his sons, Walter Dean Washington Jr. and Robert Earl Washington; and his grandchildren, Jay’tun Washington, Jaidence Washington, and Nicholas Childress Mims, and his "best friend in the world" Jamie Lorraine Corsey, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends who loved him dearly.

Walter Dean wanted to help all those that he could, even after his departure. Walter made the decision to donate his body to UT Southwestern University to further research to help those with diabetes and congestive heart failure. 

A memorial service in his honor will be held at Grace Gardens on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 10:00am.
