Virginia Leander (Machalec) Slone

Virginia Slone, 64, of Waco, passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2023.  Visitation with the family will be 6-8 pm, Monday, February 27, 2023 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home, Waco, Texas.

Virginia was born November 7, 1958 in Victoria, Texas.  She spent her childhood and graduated from high school in 1977 from Stroman High School in Victoria, where she was a twirler, in Honors and in the band.  She was determined to stay in contact with her classmates and has done so. Following high school she was awarded a full scholarship to Texas A and M University, but opted to serve her country through the United States Marine Corps.

Virginia moved to Waco to raise her family.  She had many talents that led to her having several occupations.  She loved her time as a cosmetologist and made many lifelong friends.  The job she was most rewarded by and proud of was at The Family Abuse Center where she was able to travel to surrounding communities and help families in need.  She also worked many years at Atmos Energy where she received multiple awards and helped many people.

She enjoyed several crafts, crocheting and needlepoint being her favorites.  Dancing and fishing were some of her favorite past times.  Virginia was a loving and fun person, often the life of the party.  Her daughters cherish the good times they had with her, while acknowledging that the last few years of medical complications created a challenge.  The family encourages you to remember the good she did and rejoice with them that she is now at peace.

Virginia is preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her daughters, Leah Garrett, Alisia Garrett, Crystal Todd and husband, Ryan; grandchildren, Caitlyn Graves, Christian Garrett and wife Desiree, Michaela Sanchez, Bethany Granger, Nicky Nieves, Addy Todd, Hannah Garrett; great grandchildren, Hazel, Kynz, Mary, Melody, Kayson; siblings; Patricia Larason, Carolyn Barnes, Veta Kirsch; and many nieces and nephews.
