Vernon Robert Ewing
February 15, 1928 - November 16, 2014
Vernon Robert Ewing of Whitney Texas passed away at the age of 86 on Sunday, November 16, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. A Celebration of his Life and a luncheon will be held at his home in White Bluff Resort, Whitney, Texas on Saturday November 22nd at 1:00 pm.
Vernon was born February 15, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY to Christiana Anne and George Alexander Ewing. He served his country in the US Navy of which he was on 4 aircraft carriers and was a Korean War Veteran. He retired from the Navy after 20 years of service and went to work at Gardner Denver and then retired from Westinghouse at Comanche Peak Nuclear Plant. Vernon(Pappy, Grandpa) married his best friend and life companion of 60 years, Margaret Lorayne (aka: stinky) on August 21, 1954 and raised 7 beautiful children.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, his brother George Alexander II and wife Peggy, daughter-in-law Vicky Ewing, and his granddaughter Hailey L.J. Cockerham.
Vernon is survived by 5 loving daughters, Bonnie and husband Mike, Karen and husband Dale, Debbie and husband Candy, Laurie and husband Michael, and Connie and husband Mark; 2 caring sons, Matt, and Danny and wife Pam; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren. Niece Monica Brogdon and nephew George Alexander Ewing III. The Ewing Legacy lives on!
