Venita Joyce Cockerham passed into the arms of her heavenly Father on Friday, August 26, 2022. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by her family and pet, Daisy, after years of dealing with various heart issues.
Service will be on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at 2pm, at Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum, 6623 South Interstate 35, Waco, TX, 76706.
Joyce was born February 17, 1941, in Delhi, LA, to her parents, Willie Edderds Greer and Janice Meredith Masters. She was always considered a beautiful woman, both inside and out. In fact, she won the Miss Orange Pageant! She received her Associates Degree in business from Durham Business College. However, she took great pride in being a Stay at Home Mom, all the while working part time in other ways, such as an accountant/administrator for various family businesses.
She was devoted to her family and loved serving her Lord Jesus Christ through her gift of hospitality. Their house on Amberidge Terrace in Waco, TX was much like a free Bed and Breakfast. She was always willing to help to take in and care for those who needed help through life transition. She was well known for being the spiritual mom of many throughout her lifetime. She was beloved by all, affectionately known as “Mom C.”
Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Cockerham; Her first child and son, Jay Cockerham; Her third grandchild, Tyler Cockerham; Her parents, step father, two brothers, and many from her extended family.
Survivors include her daughter, Julie K. Taft (Philip); son, Jeffery A. Cockerham (Laura); daughter-in-law, Beth Cockerham; 9 Grandchildren (Trey, Brittany, Courtney, Mallory, Will, Ella, Charlie, Alex, Mary); a host of family members and adopted family members.
