Tom was born May 1, 1937 in Crosbyton, Texas to Melvin M. and Cora Shearer. The son of a Cotton Ginner, Tom and his family moved about the South Plains, ultimately moving to Slaton, Texas, where he graduated High School in 1955. Following high school, Tom became employed at Douglas Aircraft at Hollomon Air Development Center and then joined the Army National Guard. In 1958, Tom entered Baylor University and worked as a student for the Dean of Men's office-Men's Residence Hall's, to include Penland, Brooks, and Kokernot. In Tom's future was a cute little lady from Daisetta, Texas who stole his heart. They were married in 1963, the same year Tom received his BBA degree. After graduation from Baylor, Tom worked for General Foods Corporation - Post Division as an Account Manager in Waco and then St. Louis, MO. However, Texas was pulling at both Tom and Harriet, and an opportunity to return to Baylor won out. After additional degree work, Tom took a Management position with Automatic Chef Company, where he remained for 18 years before retirement. Deeply loving his family, Tom attended countless activities at school and sporting events of his children and grandchildren. An avid golfer, he supported and played in the Waco Senior League and served on the Waco Chamber's Jr. Golf Committee for the Starburst Tournament. A member of First Methodist Church of Waco (Sunday School), he attended the Friday morning Bible Group, and loved his association with the fine men of that group. He also attended the worship services at Renew Church Waco where he loved to hear Pastor Wayne and socialize with friends there. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, M.M. & Cora Shearer, sisters Rena Mae Tapley and Bobbie Cox, brother Curtis Ray Shearer and nephew Kirby Shearer.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Harriet Rogers Shearer, son Steve Shearer and wife Teresa, daughter Stacie and husband Jeff Lathern, niece Tinker and husband Darrell Garrett, nephew Charles Tapley and wife JoAnn, and nephew Shelby Shearer. Grandchildren; Taylor and husband Chase Crenwelge, Samuel Shearer, Grant Lathern, Pearson Lathern, and step-granddaughter Hailey and husband Bradley Carrier.

Tom was heard to say, "if I had known my grand-kids would be this great, I would have had them first"!

The family would like to share special thanks to Dr. Rosario and staff, Dr. William/Bill Pitts and staff, nurses, caregivers, Holley and Mark Walsh, Laurie, Julie, and other team members from Bluebonnet Hospice, and the staff at Stoney Brook.
