Tommy Edward Hennig, Sr. of Crawford, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, December 17, 2022, at the age of 80 in Waco, Texas. Visitation will be 6:00 P.M.to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 21, 2022, in the Chapel of Grace Gardens Funeral Home, 8220 Woodway Dr.  The funeral will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, December 22, 2022, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Crawford with Pastor Tom Beers officiating.  Interment will follow in St. Paul Memorial Park. For those unable to attend, the service will be live streamed at www.gracegardensfh.com.  Through this site, you are encouraged to leave a message or a fond memory about Tommy.

Tommy was born April 18, 1942, in Waco, Texas, the son of the late Ernest Otto and Adela (Bohne) Hennig.  He received his education in Rosebud Lott, McGregor and Crawford High School, where he played football and won State in track. On August 15, 1981, he married Betty Sanders in Waco.

For 35 years, he was employed by Ray Hennig’s Heart of Texas in Waco.  He loved working with all the local bands, schools and churches with their sound systems.  Being a people person, he also enjoyed visiting with all the musicians and listing to their stories. After the closing of Heart of Texas Music, he was employed with Providence Health Center until his retirement in 2007.  After his retirement, he took on painting, carpentry work and building bird houses for family members.

Tommy was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Crawford, Texas.  He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in McGregor and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Waco, Texas.  He was very active in the church where he sang in the choir, was an usher and served on the properties committee.

It has been said that he was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.  He enjoyed country music, gardening and fishing.  His favorite singer was George Jones.  He also had a special love for horses and his German Shepard.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a son Tony Hennig; brothers, Wesley, Buddy, Ray and Leo Hennig; Brother-in-laws, Gussie Wiethorn, Harold Luedeker, Jamie Phillips and Jimmy Deer; sister, Ruby Jean and Tennie Phillips; sister-in-law Viola Hennig and Myrtle Hennig.

Survivors include his loving wife Betty of forty-one years, of whom he shared lots of great memories with; sons, Tommy, Jr. and wife Dona, Timmy, Tracy and Justin Hennig; daughter, Connie Hennig and sisters Margie Deer and Joyce Wiethorn; eight grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, many lifetime friends and his German Shepard, Duke.

For those desiring, the family has suggested St. Paul Lutheran Church, St. Paul Memorial Park or the charity of the donor’s own choosing, for memorial contributions.
