"Tim" Nathan Timothy Pope, Sr.

Nathan (Tim) Pope, 66, was born September 28, 1955 to Charles Wayne, Sr., and Bertha Mae Pope. Tim passed away in Austin, Texas, on March 19, 2022, surrounded by his loved ones after a courageous fight with congestive heart failure.

Tim grew up in Pritchett, Texas, and was a true country boy who loved all outdoor activities, including “borrowing watermelons” as a kid to have as a summer snack. He grew up with siblings Florence Anne Pope and Charles Wayne Pope Jr. He attended Union Grove ISD from K-12, where he participated in many activities, but his love was the sport of football. He ended up playing football in junior high, high school, and into his college career at Kilgore Junior College and Sam Houston State University, where he completed a bachelor in kinesiology and history in 1979 and met the love of his life, Wende. His career started as a football coach for 7 years at Hull Daisetta ISD. After completing a master’s in administration at Stephen F. Austin University, he completed a 27 year career in administration that included working for Cleveland ISD, Hull Daisetta ISD, Gilmer ISD, East Bernard ISD, and Marlin ISD, where he finished out his academic career. After his educational retirement, Tim was Director of Little Lions Academy at St. Jeromes for 2 years.

Tim was blessed with a large and loving family. He married his best friend on June 21, 1980 in Houston, Texas. Tim helped raise three children with patience, discipline, and humility. He helped teach them to read, write, ride bikes, and so much more. Some memories his children will cherish is of him always singing while cooking, doing chores, and doing everyday tasks. His love of music and singing lives on in his children and grandchildren.

Tim is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Birtha Pope, and granddaughter, Lily. He is survived by his wife Wende; son Nathan and his wife Vashti, of New Waverly; daughter Allyson and husband Chris of Georgetown; daughter Makenzie and husband Daniel of Turkey; sister Florence Anne of Longview, and brother Charles Wayne and wife Becky of Gladewater. Tim is also survived by eight grandchildren: Ian, Eleanor, Hattie, and Nate of New Waverly; Benjamin and Grayson of Georgetown; and Amelia and Lincoln of Turkey.

There isn’t a way for us to put into words the entirety of his impact, his legacy, and the person he was. Today and for the rest of our lives, we will celebrate Tim’s life by celebrating the loves of his life: his wife, his faith, his family, and his friends. He was a humble servant of God, a true example of what a father should be, a gentleman, and a wonderful spouse. Together as husband and wife, Tim and Wende Pope showed their children and family what true love really is. Heaven became a brighter place when he was called, and he will Rest In Peace for all eternity with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We love you and will miss you, and you will be forever in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jeromes Catholic Church, which will be divided between the Knights of Columbus, Womens Society, and St. Vincent De Paul.
