Thomas Charles McPherson, 76, went to be with his Lord on February 11, 2022, after a battle with dementia.
Tom was born August 14, 1945, in St. Louis, MO. He graduated from Harlingen (TX) High School in 1963 and went on to attend Texas A&M University, graduating with the class of 1968. Following college graduation, Tom served his country as a pilot in the United States Air Force. He flew C130 Surveillance missions over Vietnam from the Air Force base in Ubon, Thailand. His Texas A&M roommate, Edward Fehler, convinced him to come to Central Texas and go into a farming partnership where he could put his degree in Horticulture to good use. It was at College Avenue Baptist Church, McGregor, TX that Tom met Janet Thomas and knew “she was the one”. They married in 1974. As partners, Tom and Ed farmed, ranched, owned a feed store and mill. Tom later worked for Central Garden & Pet in outside sales and retired from Golden Acres Genetics. Always strong in his Christian faith, Tom and Janet joined with a number of other families to form Emmanuel Christian Fellowship where he served as an elder. He also served several years on the McGregor School Board. Tom and Janet loved spending time in the mountains of Red River, NM. In 2017, they enjoyed the trip of a lifetime, visiting Israel and Jordan.
Tom is survived by his wife Janet, three sons he was so proud of, and seven grandchildren he adored: Scott [Beth] of Wylie, TX and grandchildren Jennifer and Sidney; Mark [Kelli] of Mound, TX and grandchildren Kinsley, Anna and Allie; and James [Suzanne] of McGregor, TX and grandchildren Eli and Luke. He is also survived by two sisters, Bea Kelly of Sherman, TX and Deb Eisenbrown of McGregor, TX.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, J Ham and Althea McPherson and by his in-laws, Stanley and Charlene Thomas.
A celebration of Tom’s life is scheduled for Saturday, February 19, at The Hub (formerly Emmanuel Christian Fellowship), 415 N. Main, McGregor, TX. Visitation with the family will be from 2:00-3:00 with a service following at 3:00.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to your favorite charities.
For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. (1 Corinthians 13:12)
