Tammy Lynne Massirer, a beloved wife, mother, Nana, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2024, after a courageous 12+ year-long battle against cancer. Beloved family and friends surrounded Tammy as she entered her eternal rest with her Savior, Jesus Christ.
Tammy was born on November 4, 1964, in Waco, TX to Quentin and Bert Ann Haug. She graduated from Jefferson Moore High School in 1983, where she was voted “Most Scholarly.” She was incredibly hard-working and determined throughout her life.
After beginning her college career at Texas A&M, she later graduated from Baylor University. A proud educator, Tammy taught first grade for 16 years at Bosqueville Elementary in Waco, TX until her cancer diagnosis forced her into medical retirement. She made a tremendous impact on each class of students she had, possessing incredible skill in teaching students to read and instilling in them a love of learning at a young age. Tammy regularly and anonymously dropped off food and clothes to underserved students in her classes.
Tammy’s faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation upon which she built her life. She was a long-time member of Western Heights Baptist Church in Waco, TX and then First Baptist Church in Crawford, TX. Tammy taught Mission Friends, ran Parent’s Day Out, taught Bible studies, discipled women in prison, and helped run a food pantry ministry until the last month of her life. Tammy was confident as she approached death, knowing that because of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, she had a spiritual “inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for [her]” (1 Peter 1:3-4).
Tammy’s fierce love for her family was evident throughout her life. She loved traveling with her husband, Royce, but she especially treasured time at home with her family, cherishing every moment with her seven grandchildren. She is survived by her devoted husband, Royce Massirer, who provided for, loved, and nurtured her throughout her cancer journey. Tammy is also survived by her son, Steven Hill, and his wife, Hayley, along with their two children, Amos and Micah Jane, as well as her son, Jonathan Hill, and his wife, Erin, along with their son, Jameson. Tammy deeply loved her stepchildren as well, and is survived by her stepdaughter, Valerie Warschak, and her husband, Doug, as well as their three children, Kaden, Connor, and Cole, along with her stepson, Shawn Massirer, and his wife, Tracey, and their daughter, Harper, as well as her stepdaughter, Kristen Massirer. Tammy is also survived by her siblings, Eddie Haug and his wife, Stephanie, Emily Carter and her husband, Dan, and Matt Haug, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, Tammy requested that all memorial donations be directed toward Bosqueville Elementary in Waco, TX to provide resources for teachers to use in the classroom as well as First Baptist Church in Crawford, TX to provide meat and fresh vegetables for the food pantry ministry. Checks can be made out to both organizations with her name in the memo line to be directed in those ways.
Tammy was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Bert Ann Haug, and her father, Quentin Haug, along with her grandparents.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 17, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., followed by a celebration of life service on Friday, October 18th at 10:00 a.m., both at Grace Gardens Funeral Home in Waco, TX.
