Scottie Scott, 79, of McGregor passed away May 4, 2017. A celebration of life will be at 5 p.m. Monday, May 8, 2017, at First United Methodist Church of Waco with Rev. Wayne Williams officiating.
Scottie was born June 23, 1937, to Everett Amos and Dora Dell (Dear) Scott in Dougherty, OK. The youngest of six children, Scottie grew up in Troy, OK and attended grade school in both Troy and Dougherty. Scottie graduated from Ravia High School in 1955. He then attended Murray State College in Tishomingo where he graduated as valedictorian. In 1960, Scottie earned a B. S. degree in mechanical engineering at Oklahoma University.
Scottie worked for a glass manufacturing plant and the Oklahoma Highway Department while going to high school; after graduation from college, he worked in the aerospace industry for Boeing Aerospace, Rocketdyne, and Hercules. After retiring in 1993, he took on a new challenge and managed the Calvert Co-op Cotton Gin for six years.
Scottie loved country western dancing. One night in March 2009 while dancing at the Cotton Club in Granger, TX, he met his wife Janet. Scottie’s first gift to Janet was a pair of overalls; that was the day he shared a lifelong dream: to be owner of a pick- your- own blackberry farm. Scottie and Janet married in June 2011 and later opened Punkin Center Berry Farm in 2012. Hundreds of kids have enjoyed picking the berries and gathering vegetables from the nearby garden.
Scottie was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings.
Scottie is survived by his wife, Janet Walters Scott; and step-sons, Aaron Walters and wife Debra, and Eric Walters; step-grandchildren, Laura Walters and fiancé Darren Popp, Tristen Walters, and Jacie Loewe.
