Sarah Gummelt

December 18, 1926 — June 17, 2009

A host of angels came to escort Sarah Elizabeth Morgan Gummelt to her heavenly home Wednesday, June 17, 2009. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Grace Gardens Funeral Home. A Celebration service will be Friday, 11 a.m. at Columbus Ave. Baptist Church.

Mrs. Gummelt was born Dec. 18, 1926, in Houma, La., to Otto and Byrd Jane Morgan.She married Edwin Gummelt Jr. in Lufkin, Dec. 21, 1946. She graduated from Baylor University in 1948. The Gummelt's were co-sponsors of KOT a local fraternity for more than twenty years. As a member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church, she taught Sunday School for 35 years. Active in P.E.O., numerous charity and bridge clubs, she always showed her love of life. Everyone that knew Sarah Elizabeth loved her and her contagious smile.

Sarah Elizabeth is survived by her husband of 62 years, Eddie Gummelt, Jr. of Waco; a sister, Mrs. Robert A. Whitley Sr. of Longview; and sister-in-law, Eunice Kuehl and husband Kenneth. The jewels in her crown were one daughter, Melisa Sorota, and husband, Peter of Dallas; Marshall Gummelt and wife Nanette, of Waco; Morgan Gummelt and wife, Jan of Waco; nine grandchildren blessed the Gummelt family, Grant Gummelt, of Dallas, Holin Wilbanks and husband, Bart, of Utah; Blake Gummelt and wife Lauren of Leander, Cary Gummelt and wife Cori of Richardson, Megan Denton and husband Will of Houston, Mollie Gummelt of Littleton, CO.; Cole, Ally and Casey Sorota, of Dallas; three great grandchildren, Holin Paige and Jack Mason Gummelt of Leander, Grace Catherine Gummelt of Richardson.

The Gummelt family thanks the wonderful nurses and doctors that worked tirelessly to provide the best care possible to Sarah Elizabeth at Hillcrest Hospital. In leau of flowers memorials may be made to Columbus Avenue Baptist Church Childrens building.
