Sara Cynthia McGregor, lovingly known as Cindy, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2024. All who knew and loved her, and the family are invited to pay their respects at a visitation on Saturday, September 21 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at Grace Gardens Funeral Home in Woodway, Texas. A private burial will be held on the same date.

Cindy was born on November 21, 1941, in Crossville, Tennessee. Cindy excelled in school and was active in basketball and cheerleading. She often visited Livingston, Tennessee to see her beloved grandparents. She attended Stephens College before transferring to the University of Tennessee in Memphis, where she became a certified medical technologist. It was there she met her future husband, James Elhannon McGregor. They married on November 27, 1963, and shared a beautiful life together.

Cindy was a devoted mother to her children, Jay and Jill. The family settled in Waco, Texas, where Cindy immersed herself in the community, becoming an active member of the Junior League, PTA, and various gardening and herb societies. She was a master gardener, known for her vast knowledge of plants and birds, and served as president of the Waco Garden Club and Herb Society.

A skilled cook, Cindy was famous for her chicken enchiladas, creamed corn, and peach cobbler. She also enjoyed playing competitive tennis, earning a state ranking in her age group. Cindy had a deep love for travel, especially with Tom and Debbie Thurman, Linda and Gary Kesler, and Ty and Bill Edmiston. Her journeys, especially throughout England and Europe, were a source of great joy.

Cindy's love extended to her pets, who were family to her. Her life was a testament to the beauty of nature, the warmth of family and the joy of lifelong learning. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband Dr. James Elhannon McGregor.

Cindy is survived by her son, Jay McGregor and wife Angie, her daughter Jill Smith and her husband James; her brother Tom Thurman and wife Debbie; and her granddaughters Morgan Houghtlin (husband Mitchell), Grace Smith and Lanie Smith and many beloved friends and family members. Her legacy will live on in the gardens she nurtured, the communities she served, and the hearts she touched. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to G.H. Pape Garden Foundation, 3321 Inverness Street, Waco, Texas 76710.
