Russell F. Baker, 73, of Woodway, Texas, died on February 22, 2012. Visitation with the family will be at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2 Ritchie Road, Woodway, Texas, on Monday, February 27, at 10 A.M., with the service following at 11 A.M., with Reverend James Menke officiating.
Russell Freeman Baker was born November 8, 1938, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Jennie and Leslie Baker. He married Lorna Lou Beggs on June 27, 1959, in St. Paul. Russ worked at Marathon Power Technologies for forty-one years, first in St. Paul; then in Cold Spring, New York; and finally at the Waco facility when it was being built in 1971. He retired as Vice President of Operations in 1999. Russ was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing in the various Waco senior leagues after his retirement.
He loved his church, Trinity at Badger Ranch, where he served on the “site search” committee and the building committee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, Charles Jacobson; and a sister, Katharyn Miller.
Russell is survived by his wife, Lorna; son, Russell F. Baker, Jr. of El Paso; daughter, Jennifer Baker Akin and husband, J. Russell Akin of Dallas; daughter-in-law, Sophia Baker of Harlingen; four grandchildren, Brian and Katherine Baker of Harlingen; and Jay and Elise Akin of Dallas; sisters, Beverly Jacobson of Superior, Wisconsin; Jacqueline Bergman and husband, George, of St. Paul, Minnesota; brother-in-law Bruce Miller of Amherst, New Hampshire; many nieces and nephews, and special friends Ann and John Moran, Debra and Glyn Vorderkunz, and Mary Ann and Don Parks.
