Ruben R. Navarro, Jr., 58, of Hewitt, Texas passed away on June 22nd 2024 at his home of natural causes. He loved his home and the great people of Waco and Hewitt Texas. A time of visitation with family and friends will be Friday, June 28, from 5 - 6 pm, a rosary will begin at 6:15 pm at Grace Gardens Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be the following day Satuday, June 29, at St. Jeromes Catholic Church beginning at 9:30 am.
Ruben was born on January 11, 1966, in San Antonio, Texas to parents, Ruben L. Navarro, Sr. and Teodora R. Navarro. Growing up Ruben loved to spend weekends on the west side of town with his grandparents whom he loved very much. In his adolescent years, he was drawn to the low rider and zuit suit style.
Later, Ruben graduated from Thomas A. Edison High School (Go Golden Bears!). Shortly after graduation, Ruben enlisted in the Air Force Reserve and served for 8 years. Following his Air Force Reserve service, Ruben's journey in law enforcement began when he responded to an ad in the San Antonio newspaper for the Waco Police Academy. His commitment and passion led him to serve 20 plus years in the Waco Police Department with honor, notably as a member of the SWAT team where he truly felt proud to serve his community.
In retirement, Ruben cherished spending time with his godson Gabriel Contreras and his beloved dogs, Maverick (Mavi) and Evee. However, he found true joy in heartfelt conversations with the people he loved – his family, Godson and friends.
Ruben is survived by his parents, Ruben and Teodora Navarro, sisters Teresa (Terry) Navarro Huerta, Mary Esther N. Zavala, Aunt Margaret Zarate, Uncle Ramon Navarro, nieces Faith and Sarah Zavala, and nephews Jared and Robert Zavala, Godson Gabriel and his sister Grace Contreras, numerous cousins. He is also survived by his best friend James Owens and son Justin, as well as his beloved dogs Mavi and Evee.
Ruben will be known by many for his kind heart and generosity, smile, positive attitude, and many wonderful attributes. He will be dearly missed but not forgotten. In honoring Ruben's memory, let us celebrate a life well-lived—a life dedicated to service, love, and unwavering commitment to those around him. May he rest in peace knowing that he made a profound impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Rest in peace Ruben.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Melissa King, Gabriel Contreras, Hewitt Police Department and Waco Police Department, Grace Gardens Funeral Home, St. Jerome Catholic Church, his friends and support systems in Waco, Hewitt, and San Antonio, Texas.
