Roy Lee Lindsey Jr. age 86 passed away Friday October 7, 2011 at a local hospital. Funeral Services will be 2PM Monday October 10, 2011 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Billy Edwards of Brazos Meadows Church officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 4PM Sunday October 9, 2011 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home.
Roy was born on October 15, 1924 in Lott, Texas to Roy Lee and Alice Bell Lindsey. His father was a store owner and his mother and dad owned and operated the local phone company.
Immediately after graduation, he was on a bus trip to Houston for a job. In Cameron, Texas he met a recruiter from the Navy. He decided at this time he wanted to make a career in the Navy. At this time, he had to go back to Rosebud so his parents could sign the consent for him to join the Navy. In January of 1943 he was stationed overseas in many areas. He was part of the amphibious force that went ashore in the Pacific Islands that supplied troops with ammunition,fuel and other subsidies needed to secure the islands for the United States.
He got out of the Navy in 1946 and immediately that same day joined the United States Airforce. In 1950 he served in the Korean War. Many of Roy’s high school classmates were killed while serving our country in both wars.
Roy served in two branches of the United States military and served in many countries as well as locations within the continental U.S. He retired in 1968 as an Air Force Master Sergeant. He helped set up the local VFW Post #6008 in Hewitt, Texas and has been a charter member and active participant there for many years.
Roy was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Charmazelle Lindsey, his parents, Roy Lee and Alice Lindsey, several aunts and uncles, and numerous other family members, friends and co-workers. Roy met his previous wife on a train going to Cleburne,Texas and his military uniform won her over.
Roy is survived by his wife, MaryNell Lindsey, sons, Roger, Shawn and Roy III along with daughter-in-laws, DebiJo, Pattie and Sara, and numerous grand-children and great-grand-children. He is also survived by step-sons, Brad and Doug Reynolds.
