Rose Harwell

April 10, 1931 — July 17, 2011


Rose Marie Harwell, 80 of McGregor, Texas passed away on July 17th at St. Catherine’s Center. The family will welcome friends for visitation 5 to 7 Monday, July 18 2011 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 19 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Larry Felice officiating. Burial will follow at McGregor Cemetery.

Rose was born April 10, 1931, in Riesel, Texas to the late Mary and Herman Miller. She married James L. Harwell on June 2, 1948 and together they raised three children. Rosie spent her life serving others in many capacities including: dental assistant, school secretary, teacher’s aide, driver for Central Texas Senior Ministries, and cashier at Wal-Mart. She loved fishing, golfing, and woodworking with her husband.

”Nanny” as she was best known, spent many years loving her grandchildren and recently, her great-grandchildren; they always put a smile on her face and could do no wrong in her eyes. She taught them all to play poker, and attended concerts, sporting events, and shows. Rosie also loved her Texas Rangers and Lady Bears, and rarely missed a game. She enjoyed playing dominoes with her friends at the American Legion Hall in McGregor. Rose was also a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Otto, Texas.

Rosie was preceded in death by her husband, James, and her sister Illiemae Martin. She is survived by her brother, Louis Miller and wife Katy of Waco, Texas; children, Janie Harwell of Granbury, Texas; Carol Penoli and husband, Don of McGregor, Texas; Ricky Harwell and wife Ellen of Bryant, Arkansas; godchild, Diane Schaeper and husband Randall; grandchildren, Nicole Krause and husband Adam; Cari O’Dell and husband, Michael; Stefanie Cuomo and husband Eric; Kristine Hammonds and husband Aaron; Jason Ponoli and wife Amelia; Scott Harwell; Luke Harwell and fiancé Heather; Eric Harwell ; nine great – grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Rosie’s family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at Providence Hospital, St. Catherine’s Center, and the Hospice team for their compassion and tenderness.
