Ronnie Gene Chism, 65, of Waco passed away Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Providence Hospital following a short illness. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 2 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roy Marshall officiating, followed by burial in the Veterans Garden of Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 1 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home Chapel.
Ron was born December 3, 1946 in St. Joseph, Michigan to James L. Chism and Ruby Ellis Chism. He graduated from Lake Shore High School in Stephensville, MI. He served 14 years active duty in the U.S. Army and retired from the Active Army Reserves in 1990. He then attended TSTI, earning an Associate’s degree in Occupational Safety. After graduation, he worked for Central Freight Lines and then for Brazos Electric Cooperative, where he retired in 2009.
He married Patricia Grossman in 1971, and they celebrated their 40th anniversary on Christmas Day 2011. He loved baseball, often coaching his son’s Little League teams, all types of music, camping in New Mexico, and his “boys”, Frosty and Shadow.
Ron was preceded in death by his father and an infant son.
He is survived by his wife, son Jason and wife Elizabeth of Gladewater, daughter Crystal Poe and husband Mark and granddaughter Catelyn of Friendswood, mother Ruby Chism of Waco, brother Terry Chism and wife Becky of Beaumont, and nephew Tim Chism.
Pall bearers are Robert Braswell, Michael Grossman, Taelor Little, Brian Maguire, Marvin Stivener and Gary Thomas.
