Ronald Harrison Miller, 78, beloved husband, brother, father and grandfather, was born on December 21, 1939 to Zula (Smith) Miller and Claude Harrison Miller in Snyder, Texas. He passed away on July 26, 2018 in Waco, Texas. He was a graduate of Snyder High School in 1958 and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Abilene Christian College (now University) in 1962. He earned his Master of Arts degree from Eastern New Mexico University in 1969.
Ron and his wife, Rheuanna, were married on June 8, 1963. They met in the ACC band where he played the trombone and she played the trumpet. They performed a duet called "Victory at Sea," and continued to make music together for 55 years of marriage.
Ron served as a Church of Christ minister for ten years and continued to minister to those around him until his last days. He was part of a jail ministry every Sunday afternoon at the McLennan County Jail and served as a deacon at Calvary Baptist Church.
The Miller family originally moved to Waco, Texas, for Ron to study toward his doctorate in theology at Baylor University. He chose a different path and became an insurance salesman for several different companies. A lover of languages, Ron studied Spanish, German, Hebrew and Greek. He took great joy in writing letters to his daughter in German, his grandsons in Spanish, and reading his Greek bible. Ron and Rheuanna created a brass quintet, Class Brass, which performed at weddings, church services and holiday celebrations and were members of the Waco Community Band for over twenty years. At the time of his death he was in the process of publishing his book of short stories and poems.
Ron was preceded in death by his father in 1951 and his mother in 1990. He is survived by his wife, Rheuanna Miller of Waco, his son, Clay Miller of Waco, his daughter, Tonna Miller-Vallés, his son-in-law, Tony Vallés, his two grandsons, Tony Lucas and Mario Vallés of New York, NY, and his two sisters, Margaret Talbot and Nancy Baker of Abilene.
The memorial service will be at Calvary Baptist Church in Waco, Texas, on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions can be made to your church or charity of choice.
