Roger Alan Poehls passed away on January 22, 2021 after a 3 ½ week long battle with Covid-19. Due to Covid-19 we will not be having a service at this time.
Roger was born on January 16, 1952 in Waco, Texas to Adolph Fritz (Buddy) Poehls and Berta Anderson Poehls. Roger graduated from Connally High School in 1970. He was the valedictorian of his class. Roger graduated magna cum laude from Texas A&M in 1973 with a degree in Building Construction.
Roger worked with his dad at A.F. Poehls’ Construction Company before branching out on his own. Most of his career he was a homebuilder & remodeling contractor.
Roger met Joy Maddux in 1980 & told her on their first date that he was going to marry her. They married on March 21, 1981. They were married for 39 years. The had four children Melanie, Ryan, Bryan, & Julie.
Roger was a very complex person who cared deeply about all aspects of life. Roger was a hard worker, paid close attention to details, & made sure things were done right. After Joy retired from teaching, the couple started a cleaning business. Their motto was “We clean like we care, because we do.” They enjoyed getting to know their customers & helping them take care of their homes.
Roger is preceded in death by his father, A.F. Poehls & grandparents, Walter F. Poehls & Angela Gerik Poehls & Mark W. Anderson Sr. & Grace Owens Anderson. He is survived by his wife, Joy of Robinson; daughters, Melanie Machann and wife Leah of Wimberley, Julie Holmsley and husband Jeremy of Comanche; sons Ryan Poehls and wife Kelly of Robinson, Bryan Poehls and partner Andrea of Waco ; two grandchildren Avery and Patrick Poehls of Robinson; mother Berta Poehls of Elm Mott; sisters, Linda Piquet of Waco, Lisa Hyatt and husband Ervin of Lubbock; brother Barry Poehls and wife Terri of Elm Mott; father-in-law & mother-in-law Charlie & Margaret Maddux of Hewitt; brother-in-law Bert Maddux and wife Mary Jo of Clifton. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews. & cousins. He will also be missed by his 6th month old Siberian Huskey named Takaani, who brought him much joy.
Roger is a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Waco & this community of faith has been a wealth of love & support during his illness. We would like to thank family & friends for all their prayers and compassion. We are also thankful for the caring doctors & nurses at Hillcrest Baylor Scott & White Medical Center. The Poehls family would like to request our community to “love your neighbor as yourself” and take all precautions to protect yourself & others during this pandemic.
