Roger Hankins, 89, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2015. A memorial service will be 10:00 am Monday, December 7, 2015 at Grace Gardens. Visitation will be 4 – 6 p.m. Sunday, December 6 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home. A private interment will be at Waco Memorial Park.
Roger was born May 17, 1926 in Joplin, Missouri, graduated Joplin High School and attended Bible College and Joplin Junior College. He served in the Marine Corp (1944-1946) before completing a 45 year tenure in business with several national firms. Roger was very active at First Baptist Woodway, previously with the Baylor Senior Choir, the Senior Kiwanis and the Holiday Rambler and Good Sams Camping Clubs. He loved God, his family, friends, music and dogs. Roger was always a kind, loving gentleman who loved to tease, work hard, and serve others.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Norma Jean Shank Hankins; brother, Johnny; Parents; and half sister, Helen Hobdy.
Roger is survived by his wife of 9 years, RoseMarie McGaw Hankins; two sons: Keith and wife Sherry of Waco, David and wife Peggy of Pleasant Garden, North Carolina; four grandchildren: Paige Hankins of Woodway, Erin Ward and husband Blake Ward of LaVernia, Texas, Tradd and wife Carla of Apex, North Carolina, Matthew and wife Meredith of Jamestown, North Carolina’ five great grandchildren; two step children: Ovata and husband Tim Bell of Woodway, Mark and wife Sherry Whitley of Tulsa, Oklahoma; ten step grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren. Roger Hankins' tenderness, compassion, Christian behavior and wise counsel will be truly missed by his family and all who he touched. A gentleman is in heaven.
