Woodway- Robert G. Watson, Sr. passed away peacefully to be with his Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ on November 15th at Regent Care Center.
Bob was born September 10, 1922 in Spartanburg, SC. He was the husband of the late Dolly Kelly Watson, and was predeceased by his mother, Blanche, his father, Marion, and his sister, Marion. After graduating from Clemson University in 1943 with a degree in Civil Engineering, Bob was commissioned an Ensign and was deployed to the Pacific theater with the Seabees. He remained in the Naval Reserves for thirty years and retired as a Captain.
Bob worked for Universal Atlas Cement Company (later Lehigh), a division of US Steel. He was very proud of the fact that, as Regional Sales Manager in Virginia Beach, VA, he sold all the cement that went into the Norfolk-Virginia Beach Toll Road. Bob retired from Lehigh in Waco in the 1970’s.
Bob was a 33rd Degree Mason, having been a member for over 60 years. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite, the York Rite, and the Sojourners. He was a member of the Lodge in Crawford, TX. Bob and his late wife, Dolly were members of the Central Christian Church on Lakeshore Drive.
Bob is survived by his two sons: David Watson, of Casco, Maine and his wife, Elizabeth Ann, Robert G. Watson, Jr., of Lowell, Michigan and his wife, Deborah and a step daughter, Dolly Mary Thornton, of Westcliffe, Colorado and her husband, Ken; eight granddaughters: Kimberlie Rose Watson, Betsy Mayo, Melissa DeBruyne, Ingrid Baxter, Virginia Thornton, Donna Baxter, Heather Martinez, and Cinda Hestilow; and grandsons: Matt Thornton, and Joe, Jay and Barry Hestilow; and seventeen great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.
A celebration of Bob’s life and Masonic service will be held at Grace Gardens Funeral Home, 8220 Woodway Drive, Woodway, TX at 1:00 PM on Friday, November 30th. Rev.Richard Roland will preside.
