Robert Eugene Wasson, a devoted husband and father, cherished brother, and beloved PaPa, passed away on December 7, 2024, at the age of 71. He was born on January 4, 1953, and was raised in Falfurrias, Texas, where he spent his childhood surrounded by numerous cousins. Together, they created countless memories, often sneaking around causing childhood mischief under the watchful eyes of their grandparents. Robert always had a passion for hard work. He opened a snow cone stand at the age of 12. Healso worked at his family’s icehouse which was a cornerstone in the town of Falfurrias. He pitched watermelons and roofed houses, all while balancing school and sports. A natural athlete, he excelled in football but had a special passion for basketball. He broke school records, including the coveted rebound record, which he held well into adulthood. He loved reminiscing about his glory days and found immense joy in supporting his grandchildren in their athletic pursuits.
Following high school, Robert proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era and was stationed in Korea. It was towards the end of his tenure that he met the love of his life, Linda, while they worked at an Army base. Robert took Linda out on their first date on a brisk November evening in New Jersey and immediately knew she was the one for him. Robert, 21, and Linda, 19, married six short months later. Together they exemplified love, dedication, and partnership, leaving a lasting example of a beautiful marriage for their two daughters. After Linda’s passing in 2016, Robert devoted himself to studying the Bible, determined to reunite with his love in Heaven.
After his Army service, Robert worked for General Tire, in Waco, until the plant’s closure. He remained steadfast and determined to provide a wonderful life for his family. He pursued an IT degree while supporting his family through various odd jobs. He led by example demonstrating resilience and perseverance through the tough times. He leveraged his hard work ethic and IT proficiency to create a fulfilling career as the IT Director for McLennan County, where he dutifully served until he retired in 2015.
Robert is survived by his brother Ken Wasson and wife Soula; beloved daughters Kathy Pavlovich and husband Matt, Melissa Little and husband Jon; and his adored grandchildren RachelLittle (19), Brooke Little (14), Harper Pavlovich (13), JJ Little(11), and Hudson Pavlovich (11). He was predeceased by his wife Linda Wasson, his mother Edna Louise Spurlin, his step-father Joe Spurlin, and his father, Tom Wasson. Each of these loved ones left a lasting imprint on his life.
A celebration of Robert’s life will be December 11, 2024, at Grace Gardens Funeral Home, 8220 Woodway Drive, Woodway, TX 78712. Visitation begins at 12:00 PM, followed by a service at 1:00 PM. Interment will take place at 2:30 PM at Waco Memorial Park, Robinson, TX.
Robert’s legacy of love, kindness, and resilience will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed
