Robert (Bob) Courtright

Robert J. Courtright of Woodway, Texas went to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 68 years old on April 10, 2013 at 11:55 pm. He was in his home surrounded by loving family at the time he passed over. Robert was born in Caney, Kansas on January 10, 1945 to Pearl and Everett Courtright. Following high school graduation from Caney, Kansas, he attended Independence Junior College in Independence, Kansas on an Academic and Track Scholarship. In 1968 he entered the U.S. Army where he proudly served through 1974. He was awarded multiple commendations during his time of military service. Following this service he attended the University of Texas where he received his Pharmacist degree. He would quickly inform people he was a graduate of the University of Texas and wore the colors proudly. His career covered a wide area of Texas and Louisiana where he finally settled in Waco. He thoroughly enjoyed his profession and continued working until his sudden illness would no longer allow. The last 26 years of his career he worked at the Waco and Temple VA facilities where he left a host of friends. He received many awards for outstanding job performance during his years of service at the VA.

Robert has one daughter, Robin, of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Robert married Delores Courtright on December 7, 1986. At his time he acquired five additional children, their spouses and grandchildren for which he referred to 'our children' and 'my grandchildren'. Robert had many loving nick names through the years - RJ, Bob, Bobbie, Corky, Bobbie Boy, Papa Bob, and Dad. He was preceded in death by his parents James Everett and Pearl Courtright. He is survived by his wife Delores M. Courtright of the home; sisters Patty Sumner and spouse Darrell of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Vicki Morrow and spouse Phil of Coffeeville, Kansas; daughter Robin of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Deborah Schmitz and spouse Mark of Copper Canyon, TX; David Lodes and wife Teri of Noble, Oklahoma; Clayton Lodes and wife Bebe of Ardmore, Oklahoma; James Lodes and wife Judi of McAlister, Oklahoma; and Cathy Winkley and spouse Stan of San Angelo, Texas. Papa Bob has a greater than 50 loving nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He lived life to his fullest on his schedule enjoying many hobbies such as fishing, camping, sight seeing and traveling, mowing his yard on his riding lawn mower, and planning surprises, pranks and games for his grandchildren's visits of which there are many fond memories and stories. Robert dealy loved patriotic music. July 4th holiday was his favorite followed by Christmas, the more decorations and the bigger the tree the better! He also enjoyed making his coworkers laugh while asking them to follow the rules.

Visitation will be held at Grace Gardens Funeral Home in Woodway, Texas from 5 pm to 7 pm on Sunday, April, 14, 2013. Funeral service will be held at Grace Gardens on Monday, April 15, 2013 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert's memory may be made to the Benevolent Fund at Fellowship Bible Church, Speegleville Rd., Woodway, Texas.
