George Dewey Gilmore, Jr. formerly of Helena passed away peacefully on October 12, 2024. He was born on April 16, 1928 to Edith Young Lynn and George Dewey Gilmore in New Iberia, LA
He is preceded in death by his wife, Thelma G. Gilmore and son, George Dewey Gilmore, III.
He is survived by his sons Michael Gary and wife Linda Gilmore, Richard F. and wife, Susana Gilmore, Steven Mark and wife, Nila Ann Gilmore. Grandchildren Dara, Jamie, Cameron, Shaun, Justin, Reed, Samuel, and Fredrick, and many Great Grandchildren.
He married the beautiful Thelma Geraldine Bodie and had a 69 year wonderful marriage.
He joined the Navy in 1946. After he separated honorably from the Navy, he started with Ingalls Ship Building and eventually took responsibility of his mother’s family business, Port City Dry Cleaners. He finally retired in 1996.
He was a strong, selflessness, giving man who cared for his family.
He was well respected and enjoyed many close friends. He was full of wisdom and taught his sons the meaning of family. The care of his mother, mother-in-law and Roseline revealed the love, respect and the room he and Thelma made for their big family.
He and Thelma loved traveling and visiting family throughout the United States.
