Richard Blackshear, 64, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 15, 2017 surrounded by family and friends.
Richard was born to Pete and Edna Blackshear in Waco on August 10, 1952. He attended University schools till moving to Hewitt and graduating from Midway High School in 1970 where he made many lifelong friends. Richard proudly served in the Navy during the Vietnam War from 1971 to 1973, surviving the sinking of the minesweeper, USS Force in 1973. Upon returning to Waco, Richard began his career in the turf products industry. In 1975, he married Kim Vacula, his partner in one great adventure after another for 40 years.He is currently co-owner of Virkim with his best friend and partner, Jimmy Dixon. His passion was watching his son, Beau, play sports at Midway and then as he continued his football career at Baylor. He was a member of First Baptist Woodway.
Richard is survived by his wife of 40 years Kim; and his son, Beau Tyler Blackshear and his fiancee' Samatha Mynar; and his granddog, Cooper. Richard is also survived by his two brothers, Rev. Wayne Blackshear and wife, Patricia, and Charles Blackshear, all of McGregor; along with multiple nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, January 18, at Grace Gardens Funeral Home, 8220 Woodway Drive. The family will hold a private service at a later date.
