Becky Herron, 68, of Hewitt flew away peacefully to be with her Lord at 2:35 A.M. on Friday, January 29, 2016 surrounded by her loving family at Providence Hospice Place in Waco after a brief, courageous battle with cancer. Visitation with family and friends will be at 10:00 A.M. February 1, 2016, followed by a life Celebration at 11:00 A.M. at Grace Gardens Funeral Home, 8820 Woodway Drive, Waco, Texas.
Rebecca Jean Martin Herron Was born in Waco, McLennan County, Texas at 10:56 A.M. Tuesday August 5, 1947. She was the fourth child born to Violet Hartense Martin and Horace William Martin Jr. of Waco. She graduated from Canyon High School in 1965. Afterwards she found herself in Amarillo where she had two children and proudly raised them. She was an active member of Sunrise Baptist Church and taught Sunday school. She also attended Bell Avenue Baptist church and actively participated in Sunday school. Becky was especially known for her smile and outgoing personality.
Becky was successful in all her roles in life that included being a stay-at-home mother and working for multiple companies in sales. After retiring, she moved to Hewitt where she used her talents to help others and serve the community. She was an active member of the First Woodway Baptist church. She enjoyed her time serving as a member of the Waco Senior Kiwanis Club, where she honored to be selected to serve as President in 2010. She also volunteered at Providence Heights and Parkdale Elementary schools where she participated in the K-kids program that taught disadvantaged kids how to be successful in life.
Becky's hobbies included traveling and took pride in her accomplishment of visiting the capitals of all 50 states, Washington DC, many National Parks and Montreal, Canada. She was also an avid photographer and won prizes for some of the photos she took while traveling.
Becky was preceded in death by her mother Violet Barnes, Hewitt, brother Lonnie Martin of Amarillo, sister, Rita Chambers of Amarillo, and Lahoma Herron her mother-in-law, of Hewitt.
Survivors left to cherish her memory include, her loving husband of 37 years, Bill Herron of Hewitt; children, Michael Brent Rhea and wife, Holly, of Amarillo, Melanie Maddox and husband, James, of Hewitt. Step daughters Laura Smith, Altus, OK; Lisa Moore Blair, OK; step son Leslie Herron, Hamilton, VA. Brothers Bill Martin and wife, Mary, of Hewitt, Robert Barnes of Moore, OK; sisters Kathy Tandy and husband, Walter, of Gilbert, AZ; sister in-law Lona Raymond of Waco; father H.W. (Dub) Martin and wife Rosa, of Elm Mott; grandchildren Donny Mills, Bloomfield NM; Bryan Smith, Gauge, OK; Ashleigh Sherel, Hewitt, MyKayla Rhea, Amarillo, TX; Sara Maddox, Hewitt. Jessica Gleason and husband Josh, Piedmont, OK; Autum Rhea, Nashville TN.; to date Becky has been blessed with 7 great-grandchildren, as well as countless nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.
