Ray Schraeder, 84, of McGregor, left this life to enter his heavenly home with Jesus, August 7, 2020. He was diagnosed with cancer in June. His family kept his wish and lovingly cared for him at home throughout his brief battle.
A graveside service will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday August 15, 2020, at McGregor Cemetery under the direction of Grace Gardens Funeral Home 8220 Woodway Dr. Due to Covid-19, there will not be a visitation.
Ray was born February 26, 1936, the eldest son of Herbert and Hattie (Pieper) Schraeder. He was raised on the family farm in the Coryell city area, graduating from Oglesby High School in 1954. After serving his country in the Army National Guard, he moved to McGregor where he met his wife Jo Carol (Seay) Schraeder. They were married June 8, 1961, at Zion Lutheran Church of McGregor. In the early years of their marriage, Ray worked for McLennan County Coop as a lineman, then for Caldwell Electric in Waco and eventually Hercules, Inc. of McGregor until its closing in 1995. He spent years after retirement cutting trees and painting houses.
Ray accepted Christ as his Savior and was confirmed as a Christian in the Lutheran Church in his early teens. He and Jo Carol were members of and raised their children at Zion Lutheran Church in McGregor. He enjoyed his family gatherings, watching his children and grandchildren’s activities, playing dominoes and was an avid fan of the McGregor Bulldog sports teams. He loved is community and volunteered for the Relay for Life Fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. He was also a regular blood donor for many years.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents and youngest brother, Glen Dale Schraeder.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Jo Carol Schraeder of McGregor; brother Bernie Schraeder and wife Doris of Oglesby; daughter Robin Grisham and husband Jerry of Georgetown , daughter Marla Klander of McGregor; son, Marty Schraeder and wife Tracie of Speegleville; grandchildren Jed Guthrie, Jerry Lynn Grisham, Kenny Grisham, Ashley Grisham, Heather Aviles, Landon Boyd, Savanah Schraeder and Colton Schraeder and 12 great grandchildren.
