Peggy Lee Wooten Mathews, 69, of Austin, passed peacefully into heaven on August 17, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. A memorial visitation will be 5 – 7 pm. Friday, August 20, 2021 in the Parlor of Oak Hill United Methodist Church in Austin. An another visitation will be 10 am, Monday, August 23, 2021, the Chapel of Grace Gardens in Waco, the funeral service will immediately follow at 11 am. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco.
Peggy was born on October 26, 1951, in Waco, Texas, the daughter of Richard and Elsie (Zeigler) Wooten. She grew up and attended Waco schools and later received a degree in Nursing and began a long and distinguished career as a Registered Nurse. She was a compassionate, caring, and humble servant treating all her patients and their families with compassion, dignity, and respect. She received several awards for outstanding service during her tenure as a nurse. She was devoted to and loved her family deeply and enjoyed spending time with them and doing things for them. Peggy was a person of strong faith and loved the Lord. She will be greatly missed.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Phil Mathews. She is survived by her son, Jeff Reedy and grandson, Dylan of Austin; brother, Dick Wooten, Jr. of Waco; his sons, Bryan Wooten and wife Gina of Waxahachie and Chad Wooten and wife Beth of Waco; four great nieces and nephews; uncle, David Zeigler and wife Chris of Wimberly, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the charity of your choosing in Peggy’s name.
