Peggy Borders

September 15, 1932 — October 27, 2015

Peggy Wilson Dobbins Borders passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2015. She was 83 years old. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church, 1300 Columbus Avenue, with Dr. Jeter Basden officiating. A private burial at Oakwood Cemetery will precede the service. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at Grace Gardens Funeral Home, 8220 Woodway Drive.
Born in Edinburg, Texas, September 15, 1932, to Grace Miles Wilson and Hunter L. Wilson, Peggy grew up on a ranch outside of Post, Texas, before moving to Spur in high school. Peggy loved her family, Baylor University, and her many friends. She graduated from Baylor in 1954 and never missed Homecoming while living in West Texas. In 1980, she moved from Stamford, Texas, to Waco.
Through the years, she was involved with organizations such as Historic Waco Foundation, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and Harston Study Club. Peggy was a loyal member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church. She was strong in her faith and loved her Lord. She taught elementary school for over 35 years and loved her fellow teachers and students. She continued her love of education through volunteering at the Mayborn Museum.
She especially enjoyed those days which included activities and time with friends, particularly when the activities involved her beloved university. She had season tickets for almost every Baylor sport. She loved to travel; there wasn’t a place that she did not want to visit. She could adjust to any activity, whether dressing up for a gala or for a football game in the rain. She didn’t use age as an excuse, having just begun yoga sessions with her daughter.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dave Borders, and her first husband, James Pete Dobbins.
She is survived by her daughter, Debra Dobbins Burleson of Waco, son-in-law, John, and three grandchildren she dearly loved and was so proud of -- Jim of Atascadero, California, Scott, of Houston, Texas, and Meg of Clemson, South Carolina. She loved her extended family and always looked forward to the annual Thanksgiving family reunion.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Dave and Peggy Wilson Borders Endowed Scholarship, c/o Baylor University Development, One Bear Place #97026, Waco, TX 76798-7026 or philanthropy of your choice.
