Following a valiant battle with Alzheimers, Paul Edward Wagenschein, 81, of Robinson, Texas, completed his earthly journey and went to meet his glorious Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Sunday November 11, 2012.

Funeral services will be 2:30PM Thursday at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church with Reverend Ron Durham officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8PM Wednesday November 14, 2012 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home Chapel in Waco.

Paul was born December 29, 1930 in Yorktown, Texas, to Oswald and Marie Range Wagenschein. As a youth, he helped his family with farming and ranching activities. He graduated from Yorktown High School, where he enjoyed playing football. He later studied Broadcast Engineering at Tyler Commercial College. He proudly served in the Texas National Guard.

Early in his professional career, Paul worked as disc jockey and engineer at several Texas radio stations. In 1956, while working at KMLW in Marlin, Texas, he met and married Mary Alice Parsons. They moved to Raymondville, where Paul worked for a Harlingen radio station. In 1965, following a move to Waco, Paul began 35 years of dedicated service to Baylor University in the Communications Department. As chief engineer, Paul provided technical expertise in the daily operation of KWBU-FM, as well as to KWBU in its transition to public television. Known for his integrity, Paul valued responsibilty and dependability. Meticuolous in attention to detail, Paul completed numerous complex electronic and mechanical projects. Recognized for loyal and unselfish service, he was honored as Outstanding Employee in 1992. Additionally, Paul served many years as a deacon and as a member of the audio and media committee at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church.

Paul loved his wife and family and was always a solid presence in their lives. He spent many hours with his grand-children and great-grand-children and played an important part in their development. Although quiet by nature, Paul enjoyed sharing jokes and humorous stories with friends and family. He was a fan of Baylor and Dallas Cowboys football, loved patriotic march music, and was a Red Cross multi- gallon blood donor.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Norman Wagenschein; and his sister, Clara Mae Binz. He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Mary Alice; his son, Kevin Wagenschein and wife Deena of Robinson; daughter, Kim Gordon of Waco; sisters Vi Ehlinger and husband, Leo; Erna Meuller and husband, Garland; and Frieda Buelter; brother, Victor Wagenschein and wife Judy; brothers-in-law, Roy Binz; Charles Moore; and sister-in-law, Christine Parsons; grandchildren Brittany Holmes, Bethany Harrison, Cooper Wagenschein, Dalton Wagenschein, Kayla Adamik, and great-grand children Kyleigh Holmes, Braedyn Martin, and Tyra Harrison.

Memorials may be given to Columbus Avenue Baptist Church, Baylor University- Department of Communications, or the Alzheimers Association.

The family wishes to express their deepest thanks to their family and friends for all their continued thoughts, support, and prayers. The family would especially like to thank Providence Hospice and Wesley Woods Care Center for Paul’s loving and attentive care.
