Patrick Victor Cuviello, 84 of Waco, Texas, formally of Corsicana, Texas passed away at a local hospital surrounded by has family. Pat was born in West New York, New Jersey to Daniel and Mildred Cuviello. Patrick graduated from high school and served in the Navy where he was in the medical division for 2 yrs. He graduated from Seaton Hall University with a degree in Biology in 1949. He later received his M.S. degree in Biology from East Texas University, Commerce in 1971. He moved to Marlin, Texas in 1949 and began working at the Veteran Administration Hospital in the laboratory which started his career as a laboratory technician. This is where he met his wife of 57 yrs, Norma Jean Nitzschke and they married in 1953. In 1955 they moved to Corsicana, Texas for him to be the director of the laboratory at Navarro County Hospital. He was the director of 40 years and retired in 1996. He also started the Medical Technology School at the hospital which was moved to Navarro College where he was an adjunct professor for over 20 years.
Pat has been very involved in The American Medical Technologist organization at both the state and national levels. He has held many offices including president at both levels. Pat has received numerous awards at both the state and national levels including the highest national award “The Order of The Golden Microscope”. He has been honored with his own award at the national level “The Cuviello Excellence in Education Award” which is given each year. In 1982 he received Hospital Corporation of America’s Dr. First Humanitarian Award. Until 2009 when health issues required him to retire he was the president of American Medical Technologist Institution of Education (AMTIE) for 20 years. He authored many educational books and papers related to medical technology.
Pat’s other interests included fishing, visiting and playing with all his grandchildren. He was also a great spaghetti cook.
Patrick is preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Mildred Cuviello, his bother Luis Cuviello, sister, Deloris D’Elia, and brother-in-law Hank Mei all of New Jersey.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Norma Cuviello; son, Patrick Cuviello, Jr. and wife, Brenda of Pensacola Fl,; daughters, Linda Marcial of Pompano Beach, Fl, , Kimberley Seesing and husband, Larry of Waco, Elice Palmer and husband, David of San Antonio; brother, Daniel Cuviello, wife Helen of the Pocono Mts. of PN.; sisters, Lucille Mei, of Hackensack New Jersey, and Rose Martine, husband Pat of the Pocono Mts., PN.; grandchildren, John and Erica, Ian, Kacee, Micheal, Ashlee and Brandon, Haylee, Kyle and Jason; great grandchildren, Emily, Rachael, Jared, Grace, Beau, and Dominic and one great great grandchild, Oliver.
