Pam (Miller) Avery

Pam Avery of Eagle, Michigan passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2020, at the age of 66 in Axtell, Texas.  Visitation with family will be held on March 9, 2020 at 10 in the morning at the Wacousta Community United Methodist Church, followed by a memorial service at 11 with Rev. Hillary Thurston-Cox officiating.  Lunch will be served following the service. For anyone unable to attend Monday, the family will be receiving visitors at 514 Cedarwood in Dewitt from 3 to 5 on Sunday, March 8, 2020.

Pam was born on April 23, 1953, in Ionia, Michigan, the daughter of the late Jay Benjamin and Leota Analee (Burger) Miller. She was a 1971 graduate from Portland High School and remained close with her classmates.  Twenty-five years of her life was devoted to elementary education as a teacher’s aide at Wacousta and Neff Elementary Schools in Grand Ledge.  Pam fiercely loved time with her family, especially the Christmas season celebrations. Pam was an avid reader, often gathered with friends to play Euchre, cherished time at Lake Michigan, and enjoyed Music in the Park in Portland and Lake Lansing.

Pam was devoted to her community as a lifetime member of Wacousta Community United Methodist Church, and a regular volunteer at the City Rescue Mission in Lansing, and the Capital Area Humane Society. She deeply loved her adopted dog, Carson, and all of the litters and dogs she fostered.

Survivors include a son, Charles John Avery (Kristen) of Stillwater, MN; daughters, Gail Christine-Avery Schafer of Dewitt, MI, and Gina Christine-Avery Long (Chet) of Axtell, TX; brother, Keith (Cindy) Miller; sister, Jill (Tom) Hoppes; and grandchildren: Avery Armstrong, Colin Armstrong, Jackson Avery, Mason Avery, and Dominick Cooper. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Cheryl Armstrong and her niece, Jessica Stephens.

Memorial contributions are preferred to The American Cancer Society, Capital Area Humane Society, Wacousta Community United Methodist Church, or UofM Cancer Center.
