Norma Lee Ashby, of McGregor, passed away Thursday afternoon, May 11, 2023, at the age of 94. Visitation will be 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday, May 17, 2023, in the Chapel of Grace Gardens Funeral Home, 8220 Woodway Dr. The funeral service will 2:00 P.M. Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Zion Lutheran Church in McGregor with Rev. J.T. Miller officiating. She will then be laid to rest in McGregor Cemetery.
Norma Lee was born March 21, 1929, in McGregor, TX the daughter of the late Fritz and Thekla (Wendt) Fehler. In 1946, she graduated salutatorian from McGregor High School and immediately attended Business College.
On August 30, 1947, she married Arvin Ashby at Zion Lutheran Church in McGregor and they were blessed with two daughters, Diane and Kathy. Norma Lee worked in the insurance and tax business for 58 years, serving as the tax assessor and collector for McGregor ISD where she continued her devout Bulldog backing and football booster club leadership. She then finished her career in the McLennan County Tax office where she retired in 2005 at the age of 76.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Arvin, her parents, and two brothers, Floyd Fehler and Paul Fehler.
Survivors include daughters, Diane Hamilton and husband Jed of Spring Branch, TX, Kathy Keel and husband Karl of Austin, Texas; two granddaughters, Angela Roush and husband Alfred of Tampa, FL, and Kara Jones and husband Timothy of Austin, TX; two grandsons, Adam Hamilton and wife Kristen, of Richardson, TX, and Kameron Keel and wife Brooke of Dripping Springs, TX; five great-grandsons, John Robert Jones, Alfie Roush II, Ansel Roush, Kasen Keel, and James Hamilton; three great-granddaughters, Abigail Roush, Ella Hamilton and Lakelynn Keel; one brother-in-law, Lavine Whitaker of Gatesville, TX and several nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers will be Adam Hamilton, Kameron Keel, Timothy Jones, Alfred Roush, Billy Zacharias, Eugene Weithorn, Justin Weithorn, and John McClaren.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lewis Hinesley, Sidney Kasting, Benny Masters, Lewis Westbrook, and Gary Gradel.
The family expresses their appreciation to all the many staff members and nurses of The Blake-Waco and Bluebonnet Hospice for their loving care over the last few months.
For those desiring, the family has suggested Zion Lutheran Church of McGregor, TX. for memorial contributions.
