Neil Scott Lockwood, 59, of Hewitt passed away unexpectedly on August 18, 2021. A Memorial Service will be 2:00PM on Saturday August 28, 2021 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home, with Reverend Rick Koskela officiating. Visitation will immediately follow. Neil’s spouse is respectfully asking everyone to wear a mask, due to some vulnerable people who will be attending, and social distancing seating will be available.
Neil was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec on March 27, 1962, to Norman Selwyn Lockwood and Elva Mildred Horan. Neil grew up in a loving home which included his sisters Joy and Amy. He attended Cub Scouts and delivered the local newspaper on his bicycle for several years. This ambition as a child enabled him to purchase his first car. He attended Alexander Galt Regional High School where he played tenor saxophone in the school band. Following graduation, he moved to Winston-Salem North Carolina and attended college earning a degree in Computer Science. He later relocated to Montpelier, Vermont and began work in the IT department at National Life Insurance of Vermont where he worked for many years. It was in Vermont that he met Bridget Brame and they married on April 17, 2004. They moved to Waco the same year and he began working in the IT department for American Income Life Insurance Company in different roles including management. He was very loyal to his friends, co-workers and the company.
More important than his many accomplishments, Neil will and should be remembered for the man that he was. Many would describe him as quiet, but if you were lucky enough to get the chance to know him and be a part of his life, you’d discover that wasn’t true at all. He was witty, kind, selfless, intelligent and yes, very chatty.
Neil was truly a Renaissance man with many talents. He could repair almost anything, cook, bake, garden, build things, and much, much more. For enjoyment he enjoyed spending time with his family and dogs, selling Girl Scout Cookies with his daughter Brinlee, building model ships, growing trees, going on trips and cruises and he especially loved going to Disney World.
Neil was preceded in death by his much-admired father, Norman Lockwood. He leaves behind his wife Bridget Lockwood and their daughter Brinlee; mother, Elva Lockwood; sisters, Amy Lockwood, Joy (Bob) Bell; pets, Sophia, Minnie, Daisy and Jasmine; and several nephews, great nephews, and nieces. Neil was very much loved and will be forever missed.
These times are like no other, isolation is a way of life for many of us. Be kind to one another, be kind to strangers, share your struggles, fears, and joys. Be present and patient in each other’s journeys. Pray more, love more, talk more, learn more, and live more. Don’t be afraid to reach out for help. Love alone is not enough to ward off mental health conditions. Those who are contemplating suicide please reach out to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-8255 or visit save.org
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Waco Humane Society or send a tree such as a Crepe Myrtle, Gardenia, or a Red Oak. Neil respected the Earth, the environment and loved Canada and Vermont’s landscapes and the beautiful trees there.
