Naomi French Stratton, a resident of the Beverly Hills community of Waco since 1953, died Friday, Jan. 15 after a lengthy illness at a local assisted care facility. Mrs. Stratton was 92. Visitation will be 11-1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. at Waco Memorial Park.
Mrs. Stratton held many jobs in Waco, beginning in the mid-1960s, including as a nurse’s aide at Hillcrest Baptist Hospital. In the early 1970s she was a bookkeeper for Gibson’s Discount Center and belonged to Waco business women’s organizations. In the 1980s, Mrs. Stratton, along with daughter Fran Gregg, managed the Larry Robinson photo studio. She later managed Dolly Madison Bakery outlet on Speight Avenue in the suburb of Beverly Hills.
Mrs. Stratton taught Sunday school for decades at Beverly Hills Baptist Church. Mrs. Stratton was a member of Kendrick Lane Baptist Church.
Naomi Stratton grew up and graduated high school in Wapanucka, Okla. She married Roy Wayne Stratton on July 2, 1946. Wayne Stratton served in the Marines in the Pacific in World War II. He transferred to the Waco Owens-Illinois Glass plant from Oakland, Ca.
Naomi Stratton was born Aug. 1, 1928 in Wapanucka, Okla. to Ray French and Lila Brewer French. She grew up with a very strong work ethic and love for the Lord. She enjoyed reading, gardening and yardwork but most of all, she loved preparing meals for her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by three sons: Gary Stratton (and wife, Judy) of Cedar Hill, Ron Stratton (and wife, Nikkie) of China Spring and Phil Stratton of Arlington. Mrs. Stratton leaves nine grandchildren: Trisha Lapierre, Wayne Stratton, Robert Stratton, James Stratton, Jeramy Stratton, Michael Stratton, Alisa Walpole, Jake Stratton and Caleb Stratton. Survivors also include 16 great-grandchildren. She is survived by a brother, Kenneth French of Ardmore, Okla. And a sister, Louise French Steele of Metairie, La. and numerous nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Wayne Stratton, and a daughter, Lila Frances Gregg.
