August 15, 1961 — February 22, 2012

Montclair Pat Cain age 50, of China Spring, Texas, formerly of Austin, passed away Wednesday February 22, 2012 at Providence Hospital in Waco. Memorial will be held Wednesday February 29, 2:00 pm at the Manchaca Baptist Church, Manchaca, Texas with a family and friend gathering immediately following at the Manchaca Optimist Youth Sports Complex. China Spring memorial will be held Thursday, March 1, at 4:00pm Oak Grove Baptist Church.

Monte was born on August 15, 1961 in Austin Texas to Pat and Melva Jean Cain. He attended Barton Hills Elementary with many lifelong friends. Monte’s love of baseball grew as he played for S.F. Austin High School and Concordia Lutheran University, graduating in 1984 with a B.A, with coaching and teaching certifications from St. Edwards University. Baseball was central to Monte’s work and volunteer service. He began his coaching career at Rice High School in Eagle Lake and went on to coach at Dripping Springs High School, where Monte met his future wife, Melissa, an educator and volleyball coach.

Monte then joined the coaching staff at Southwest Texas as assistant under Howard Bushong, this being a treasured experience. Afterward, with a growing young family, Monte enjoyed a successful career with the Keller-Williams Realty team. Monte’s community service at the Manchaca Optimist Youth Sports Complex as a coach and administrator was a source of joy for him and his family.

Family was the most important thing in Monte’s life as expressed by his aunt who called him the glue that held us all together. Known as more than a coach, he was a mentor to many young ball players. His tireless work with, and dedication to the young players he coached showed the true person he was, steadfast, determined, kind. "Coach Cain" will forever be missed but never forgotten.

Monte is survived by his wife Melissa, stepdaughter Krista Koopmann and son Brett of China Spring, Mother Melva Jean Cain, sister April Garner, husband Bill and sons William and Towns, brother Scott Cain, wife Karen and son Daniel, all of Austin, Mother-in-law Margaret Granger of China Spring, numerous beloved aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by father Pat Cain of Austin, grandparents Melvin and Maybelle Scott, Austin, Erie Montclair and Betty Cain of Dallas.

The family wishes to thank friends and extended family for their support with special thanks to Larry Hofford and the MOYSC community, the Dripping Springs community and the many friends in China Spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Manchaca Optimist Youth Sports Complex, P.O. Box 444, Manchaca, TX 78652.
