Minnie (Min) Monnig age 86, of Waco passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at her daughter’s residence. Services will be at 3:00 PM, Thursday, November 3, 2011 at Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Min was born on February 16, 1925, at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco to Jack and Emma Lindsey. Min graduated from Waco High School. In 1943, she started working in the bookkeeping department at Monnig’s Department Store. She married Richard Monnig on June 13, 1946 after he returned from military service in WWII. They were married 51 years until the time of his death in 1997.
She was actively involved in Cub Scouts, Camp Fire, PTA and Meals on Wheels. She also assisted in organizing her Neighborhood Watch program with neighbor Billie Threadgill on Skyline Drive.
Min worked at the Waco Regional School for the Deaf for 10 years. After her retirement, she enjoyed gardening, reading and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Ann Janes, and her husband Richard.
Min is survived by her son, Mike Monnig and wife Anne; her daughter, Amy Hand and husband Curtis; four grandchildren; Ryan Hand, Laura Hand Hagan and husband Ben, Kyle Monnig, Greg Monnig and wife Ashleigh; three nieces and one nephew.
The family would like to thank her physician, Dr. Schultz, the nurses at Providence Hospital’s Heart Failure Clinic, Providence Home Health Care and the staff of Providence Hospice, to whom she thought so fondly of.
