Michael “Mike” David Mateleska, 63, passed away on January 13, 2022. His service will be at 4 pm on Monday, January 17, 2022, at Grace Garden Funeral Home Chapel in Waco, TX. He will be laid to rest at Evergreen Memorial Park in Point Marion, PA near his family members.
Mike was born on June 13, 1958, in Waynesburg, PA to George and Pauline (Beck) Mateleska. He grew up in Bobtown, PA, where he played saxophone in the school band. He attended West Virginia University and graduated with an associate degree in electrical engineering from Fairmont University in West Virginia. He moved to Richardson, TX, for work where he met his wife, Janice, and they were married on July 16, 1983, in Farmers Branch, TX.
Mike worked for L3 Harris for 41 years as an engineering manager before retiring in February 2021. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, taking his boat out on the lake, and a good glass of wine. He especially loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline; father, George; and brother Edward. Survivors include his wife, Janice; daughter Ashley (Kain) Smith; son Michael; and grandchildren Kaiden, Maddie, and Ian.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses, respiratory therapies, and other staff at Ascension Providence and at William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital at UT Southwestern for their compassionate and dedicated care.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to American Heart Association and American Lung Association.
