Melvin Wayne Bartley, Sr.

Melvin Wayne Bartley, Sr., 74, of Waco, passed away peacefully in his home, early Monday, August 23, 2021.  A Visitation with the family will be 3:30 pm, Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home in the Parlor.  A Funeral Service will be 5:00 pm, Saturday, August 28, 2021 in the Chapel of Grace Gardens Funeral Home.

Melvin was born May 11, 1947, in Lubbock, Texas to Leah Somers Bartley and Melvin Bartley.  He was a 1965 graduate of Kermit High School, and proudly served our country in the US Navy for almost three years and earning two Bronze Stars.  Following his service in the Navy, he went on to Texas Tech, graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Personnel Management.  He retired as an insurance property claims manager after over 30 years with Texas Farm Bureau.

Melvin loved many things, golf, playing and watching any sport, Texas Tech University, his family, and spending time at George’s.  In November of 2010, he made Patricia Schroeder, his Kansas girlfriend, his bride and the two enjoyed their time together.

Preceding him in death are his parents; sisters, Ann Bartley, and Jodie Carrell.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Pat; son, Melvin Wayne Bartley, Jr. and wife Amy, of Prosper; granddaughter, Kelsie Ann Bartley, of Oklahoma City; stepdaughters, Tricia Young and husband Chris of Benicia, CA., Tasha King and wife Audra of Iowa City, IA.; bonus grandchildren, Alivia, Clarity, Cashton, Anderson; many aunts and uncles; numerous nieces and nephews including a few adopted ones, Crawford and Khloe; good friend, Sammy Citrano and all his special friends at George’s.

In lieu of flowers Melvin requested that donations be made to Cornerstone Assistance Network of North Central Texas. Melvin believed in this ministry and the assistance it provides to families in need. You can donate at www.cornerstonenct.org.
