Melodie Ann (Slater) Smith

Melodie Ann Smith, 67, of Lorena, Texas passed peacefully from this life the 7th of May, 2021, after a lengthy decline in health. Her memorial service will be held in the meeting house of the Sun Valley Blvd. Church of Christ located at 340 Warren Street in Hewitt/Waco, Texas the 15th of May at 2PM.

Melodie was born in Odessa, Texas, December 11, 1953 to Burt and Patricia Slater. She graduated from Permian High School in Odessa in 1972 and was married in August 5, 1972 for nearly 49 years to Marc Smith (Truman Marcus Smith, Jr.) August 5, 1972. They did not have children. Melodie and Marc moved to the Waco area in June of 1991, Marc to be the gospel preacher for the Sun Valley Blvd. Church of Christ.

Melodie was a real estate agent for several years but spent most of her married life as a very fine and valuable home maker. She enjoyed teaching children’s Bible classes  did so in several churches, developing games that children enjoyed as they learned Bible subjects. She was very talented in many areas: cooking, gardening, cultivating exotic house plants, sewing, at one time developing her own breed of fancy guppies, being a skilled wheel crafted ceramic potter, using her design sense to decorate pots with stylish brush work. She was definitely a crafter and enjoyed experimenting with multiple arts.

She was survived by her husband and three brothers, their wives and a total of five nieces and a nephew.
