Mary Louise Rice Winters died June 8, 2011, at Wesley Woods Alzheimer’s Care Center in Waco. She was born on August 4, 1919, in Nampa, Idaho to Mehetabel and James Rice. She grew up in Meridian, Idaho, where her father was a pharmacist. She married Charles Winters in 1946. She worked as a secretary to Ada County Commissioners for many years. After retirement she and Charles owned an antique shop. Following Charles’ death, Mary moved to Waco, Texas, to live close to her daughter and family. For several years she had an antique shop in Salado, Texas. Mary was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease fifteen years ago, and has faced the degenerative disease with her characteristic strength and good humor.
She is survived by her sister Charlotte Rice Chriswisser, her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Wes Filer; her granddaughter and grandson-in-law Anne and Cory Burrough and their three children Lucas, Abigail, and Caroline; her nieces Dawn ChriswisserBookert and husband Phillip, Barbara Chriswisser Watson and husband Wayne, Susan Chriswisser, Melinda Seeley Jorgenson, Sarah Fletcher Davies and husband Phil, and nephews George Fletcher and wife Dorothy, Charles Seeley and wife Diana, and Jamie Chriswisser, and thirteen great nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory may be sent to the Central Texas Alzheimer’s Association, to Wesley Woods Alzheimer’s Center, or to Providence Hospice. The family wishes to thank the wonderful people at Wesley Woods, at Providence Hospice, and at the North Central Texas Alzheimer’s Association, as well as Dr. Gary Barbin. A memorial service is scheduled at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 13th at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Chapel, 5thStreet and Columbus Avenue, the Reverend Chuck Treadwell officiating.
