Mary Stecher, 86, of Woodway passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2018. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday, January 22 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home, 8220 Woodway Dr with Pastor Eddie Castro officiating. Interment will follow at Rosemound Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5 -7 pm at Grace Gardens Funeral Home.
Mary was born March 15, 1931 in Munday, Texas to Monroe M. and Mary C. White. She was raised in Cameron and graduated from Yoe High School. Mary married Lane E. Stecher on June 6, 1948 in Cameron. They moved to Waco where she became a homemaker. After her children started school she worked various jobs including the VA Canteen and K-Mart. Plants and flowers were Mary's love so she attended TSTC and majored in floriculture and horticulture. She was very talented and creative making beautiful arrangements for weddings. She also painted on china and was a member of a porcelain art club. After her children left home she worked at Wal-Mart as a door greeter. After 16 years of service she retired in order to take care of her ailing husband until he passed in 2012. Mary was a member of the Rebekkah Lodge, Amvets, American Legion, DAV, and VFW. For many years she was a volunteer at the VA Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lane, her parents, and her sister Frances Hill.
Surviving her are her son Robert Stecher and wife Grace of Abilene; daughter, Deborah and husband, Steve, of Hewitt; grandchildren Michael Stecher and wife Linda of Cypress, Shalee Collins and husband Ryan of Lorena, great-grandchildren, Payton Kinser and Raylee Collins of Lorena. She had four step-great grandchildren and several step-great great grandchildren.
